Age Concern Home Care Division saved from closure
Re10 is pleased to announce that the Age Concern Barking & Dagenham Home Care Division has been transferred to Home Age Care Solutions Limited under the management of Age Concern Havering.
When Re10 were appointed as Administrators to Age Concern Barking & Dagenham in April 2010 one of the main considerations was to secure the community services provided by the charity under the Home Care banner, with the retention of as many of the current employees as possible. The Home Care Division which, within the Barking and Dagenham area, offers gardening, DIY and personal services such as nail clipping to the elderly, has been saved and those services will now be provided by Home Age Care Solutions Limited.
Re10 believes the insolvency of Age Concern Barking & Dagenham highlights the many financial challenges the charity sector is now facing. The main causes of the insolvency of this charity were its substantial pension deficit liability and its poor relationship with the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.
Nimish Patel from Re10 comments: “The financial problems of Age Concern Barking & Dagenham, including the pension deficit challenge, were escalated by the fall-off in funding from the government purse. This fall-off has now worsened and is causing even more problems for charities generally. Many charities are seeing a merger with similar organisations as a way to cut costs and survive, thereby enabling them to continue to provide their services to the community.”
